The rumor mill has been swirling with talk that Sony is set to axe the 80GB PS3 in favor of a PlayStation 3 with a 120GB drive.

And the chatter has now gotten proportionally louder, as IGN is reporting that during a GameStop conference call, confirmation was received that the 80GB has bitten the proverbial dust.

According to information culled from a multitude of GameStop locations, the new system will indeed have a hard drive that's at least 120 gigs, if not larger. The other interesting tidbit is that it will allegedly be bundled with the new Dual Shock 3 controller.

When contacted for a statement, Sony gave their standard retort: "We don't comment on rumors or speculation. Any rumors on separate PS3 configurations or package arrangements are just that -- rumors and speculation."
