EVIL EMPIRE is on a distinguished road
Default Liverpool Robbie Keane - A Big Red Flop

Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer for a fee of around twenty million pounds, Robbie Keane has yet to find the net in a red shirt. Already a proven goal scorer in the Premier League, Keane has managed to find the net 169 times in his illustrious career, arguably making him one of the best Irish strikers of his generation. So why has he failed to make such an impact at Anfield? It has forced the fans to become slightly uneasy with Keane's form and have questioned such a price tag

.

Keane started his career at Wolves as a youngster, and soon become recognised on an international stage as part of the golden generation of Ireland, winning countless amounts of games. However, he failed to make an impact once Marcello Lippi bought him to Inter Milan for a massive fee of £13 million pounds. He soon became surplus to requirements and decided to move back to England on loan at Leeds United. Here he grew as a player, although not as much as the Champions League semi-finalists may have liked.

However, it was his lethal touch, aerial ability, and eye for a goal at Tottenham Hotspur that attracted the most attention. No team could stop the Irish superstar, he soon became a name on the team sheet which would strike the fear into any opposition manager's eyes. He became a fan favourite at White Hart Lane due to his 107 goals struck in a Spurs shirt; taking the arm band on numerous occasions. His partnership with Dimitar Berbatov in the 2007/08 season soon had big guns Liverpool chasing after the striker.

Rafael Benitez put £20 million pound worth of faith in the Irish international, who appears to not have bought his four leafed clover with him to Anfield

. With 564 minutes on the pitch without a goal, Keane has raised a few eyebrows around Liverpool who believed he could form an illustrious partnership with one of the best strikers in the world today; Fernando Torres.

Both players have strong Premier League goal records, but they both achieved over twenty goals in a season playing with another striker who can hold the ball up and lay it off - Berbatov, and for a number of games last season; Peter Crouch.

There is no doubt about the quality of Torres, having set alight Euro 2008 and the England's top tier last season. Benitez paid around £30million for the Spaniard, who has failed to let his manager down. Only injury this season has kept Torres out of the team

. However, the Kop has become a nervy place, even if their team did beat fierce rivals Manchester United last week. They then only managed a draw with newly promoted Stoke in their next game, something that has become a common characteristic of a Rafa-run Liverpool. If they are to mount a serious challenge for the title this season, Liverpool need two strikers who can be relied upon to score plenty of goals, and crucial ones as well.

With "Rafa's rotation policy" seeming to work in Europe, Liverpool still seem to fall short every season in the League. Each season captain Steven Gerrard will comment on how much Liverpool are prepared to sacrifice to become League champions, yet they fail to deliver.

It is clear Robbie Keane can score goals, surely it must only be a short amount of time before he opens his account for Liverpool, no matter what competition. After all, here is a player who has scored in World Cups and against all the top sides; he fails to fall under pressure by anything. Fans are hoping that his first goal will open a flood gate that takes Liverpool to higher places. If this does not happen, however, then Keane will see his career take a similar turn to the way he left Inter Milan.

In recent times great strikers have come at gigantic prices to the Premier League such as Andriy Shevchenko, Claudio Pizzaro and Diego Forlan - all seem to know where the net is in any other league, but failed to find it in England. Yet this comparison is changed due to Keane's strong taste for a League in which he has scored so many goals

. Therefore unless Keane starts to score goals, for which he was bought in for, fans will no doubt lose patience eventually with a striker who revealed it was always his dream to play for Liverpool when he moved only one month ago.
