C Milan president Silvio Berlusconi wants to take striker Andriy Shevchenko back to Italy - and is confident Chelsea will allow him to leave.
Berlusconi wants the 31-year-old, who spent seven years at Milan, as a replacement for the injured Ronaldo. "Shevchenko is a player who is ready to help and he would be the ideal solution," said Burlusconi. "I do not think Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will have a problem in letting him go." Should Shevchenko stay or go? Brazilian forward Ronaldo suffered ruptured knee ligaments in February and is expected to be out until November. Shevchenko joined Chelsea from Milan for £30m in 2005 but has failed to establish himself in the first team at Stamford Bridge. "I think regularly about Shevchenko and I often speak to him," added Berlusconi. "The fans would understand that this would be the ideal choice for us." Shevchenko's first season ended prematurely when he had hernia surgery - forcing the striker to miss the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool and the FA Cup final. He has failed to force his way into the team this season despite a change of management at the club. The Ukraine forward has a record of 20 goals in 68 appearances for Chelsea.
