Werder Bremen are resigned to being without captain Torsten Frings for the rest of 2007 after he aggravated a knee injury which had not properly healed.



Recurrence
The midfielder had returned to action last month, having seemingly overcome an injury to his left knee, but felt pain in the joint against FC Schalke 04 last Saturday. Tests have now shown that Frings had not fully recovered from the original injury when he came back into the side – to make two UEFA Champions League appearances and three in the Bundesliga.

'Longer break'
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf expects to be deprived of the influential German international until the new year. "Torsten Frings will not play again this year," he said. "He needs a longer break and will resume training with the team only in late December."
