Eduardo - I hope we qualify before we play England


Eduardo hopes Croatia have already qualified for Euro 2008 by the time they face England in the final game of Group E.

The Arsenal striker has shaken off a groin injury so he is expected to start against Israel and Macedonia over the course of the next week. Slaven Bilic’s side top the table at the moment so two wins will put them through.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online last month, the 24-year-old hoped they could secure safe passage before the trip to a resurgent England in the final rubber.

“Yes, it would be good if we were already there and then England could make it too,” he said. “It would be a great achievement and a great feat to get to the Euros. Also a great occasion.

“I think that at the start of the qualifiers England were favourites with Russia, with possibly Croatia for third. Probably everyone thought that. But Croatia are top and hopefully we'll stay there, but I always thought that England would be there as well.”
