Just curious... I was observing today that neither of my boys has a single freckle anywhere on his body. I have some, but not many, and my husband, none. We both have a few moles, but the boys don't have any of those either.

Are babies born with freckles, or do they develop them later?

I can't speak for all babies, but mine was born freckle free. She developed her first one around 5 months, and I remember exactly which one it was. Since then she's developed plenty, and even has a cute sprinkling across her nose.

It kind of surprised me when I realized it, because both my babies are very fair-skinned, as are both their father and myself. But we're that "blonde but tannable" variety of fair-skinned, as opposed to the "redheaded and burns like crazy" variety.

I believe generally freckle free. When and if they develop just depends on a bunch of factors. I am fairly "freckly" but my boys don't have any. DH and I also very "moley" (boy we sound very spotty) and ODS developed his first mole at 1 and now has 3-4 of them at age 4. YDS is almost 17 months and doesn't have any yet.

Both of mine were born freckle free and now have a couple each.
