Default Cuban Dissidents Want Obama to Talk to Cuba

A group of women Cuban dissidents, wives, mothers, sisters, and other relatives of political prisoners in Cuba, has written an open letter to Barack Obama supporting his call for talks with President Raul Castro.

The group, known as Women in White, hope that talks will lead to the release of political prisoners.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton thinks that any change in policy will only help the communist leaders of Cuba. John McCain is of the same view.

Obama has actually called for relatively minor changes. He wants family travel restrictions to Cuba removed, and he wants to allow remittances to Cuba.

The U.S. has kept its intransigent stance against Cuba for decades. Has it really done anything to benefit the U.S. or persuade Cuba to change its politics? Who has suffered more than the ordinary Cuban?

Now even the Cuban dissidents in America are asking for a change. Perhaps it is time.
