Hi,
I have been watching all of the head scratching for ways to solve the energy crisis, and I remembered an article I read in Popular Science years ago. This article dealt with a scheme to electrify major roadways for electric cars. When the author wrote the article there probably weren't any electric cars on the market, so this idea was probably a bit far fetched then. These days there are several electric cars that will do at least 100mph, and some can do 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat, with a range of 200 to 300 miles, so that idea isn't a bit far fetched now. The major draw back to using electric cars for serious transportation is their limited range. This idea would solve that problem. The author would run an insulated electrical cable down the center of the roadway and the car would utilize this power through electromagnetic induction, like an electrical transformer. While on the electrified roadway you would use that power, and you could even recharge your batteries at the same time. He wanted the car to have an auto pilot to keep it centered, and also to provide collision avoidance. If you needed to pass you would just disengage the auto pilot, pass the car and re-engage the auto pilot when you were back in your lane again. Cars could burn anything that can be converted into electricity. No pollution, no arab oil. Think about it. If congress were to sign onto this idea the price of oil would drop overnight!

I like your thoughts and ideas towards this crisis but it seems like this is just things your thinking about. This will need research and a lot of money will be needed. The current roads will be reconstructed to make these changes and this idea of yours will take ages to complete if congress picks it up.
I like it though, its a neat concept.
