I've got a bunch of Canon HV20 footage that I'd like to start burning on to blu-ray for playback in my PS3...
I don't have a blu-ray burner yet, but was going to upgrade my laptop with one to get this done. My question is, is there some trick to capturing the HDV video (which I think is mpeg2 right?) onto the PC before burning it to blu-ray...and is there another trick to getting it formatted so it will play in my PS3? I've looked around the forums a bit but am kind of lost as far as all of this stuff goes...anyone have any experience and simple 1,2,3 type instructions on how to do this? thanks!

I think Roxio Toast will do the conversion for you, but you're going to have to bring the HDV video into an editing program and export a QuickTime or AVI for Roxio to transcode to a Blu-Ray disc. You'll also need a Blu-Ray burner.

You can use Pinnacle studio, Ulead Video studio, Ulead Movie factory, Sony Vegas Pro... any of these will do it. There is nothing special in what you are proposing. Your video will go on the timeline as M2T or MPG and you will simply render and burn to normal dvd media as avchd.
Once you get a Blu Ray burner you can then start making real disks withe Roxio or Ulead
